¹ מַדּוּעַWherefore מִfrom שַּׁדַּיthe_Mighty_One לֹאnot נִצְפְּנוּhave_been_hidden עִתִּיםTimes וְAnd יֹדְעָיthose_knowing וHim לֹאnot חָזוּhave_seen יָמָיdays וHis

² גְּבֻלוֹתborders יַשִּׂיגוּthey_reach עֵדֶרA_drove גָּזְלוּthey_have_taken_violently_away וַ יִּרְעוּthey_do_evil

³ חֲמוֹרass_of יְתוֹמִיםfatherless יִנְהָגוּthey_lead_away יַחְבְּלוּThey_take_in_pledge שׁוֹרox_of אַלְמָנָהwidow

⁴ יַטּוּThey_turn_aside אֶבְיוֹנִיםneedy מִfrom דָּרֶךְway יַחַדTogether חֻבְּאוּhave_hid עֲנִיֵּיpoor_of אָרֶץearth

⁵ הֵןLo פְּרָאִיםwild_asses בַּin מִּדְבָּרa_wilderness יָצְאוּThey_have_gone_out בְּabout פָעֳלָwork םtheir מְשַׁחֲרֵיSeeking_early לַfor טָּרֶףprey עֲרָבָה לfor וֹhimself לֶחֶםfood לַfor נְּעָרִיםyoung_ones

⁶ בַּIn שָּׂדֶהa_field בְּלִילprovender וֹhis יִקְצוֹרוּthey_reap וְAnd כֶרֶםvineyard רָשָׁעwicked יְלַקֵּשׁוּthey_glean

⁷ עָרוֹםnaked יָלִינוּthey_cause_to_lodge מִ בְּלִיWithout לְבוּשׁclothing וְAnd אֵיןthere_is_no כְּסוּתcovering בַּin קָּרָהcold

⁸ מִFrom זֶּרֶםinundation_of הָרִיםhills יִרְטָבוּthey_are_wet וּAnd מִ בְּלִיwithout מַחְסֶהa_refuge חִבְּקוּhave_embraced צוּרa_rock

⁹ יִגְזְלוּThey_take_violently_away מִFrom שֹּׁדbreast יָתוֹםorphan וְAnd עַלon עָנִיpoor יַחְבֹּלוּthey_lay_a_pledge

¹⁰ עָרוֹםNaked הִלְּכוּthey_have_gone בְּלִיwithout לְבוּשׁclothing וּAnd רְעֵבִיםhungry נָשְׂאוּhave_taken_away עֹמֶרa_sheaf

¹¹ בֵּיןBetween שׁוּרֹתָwalls םtheir יַצְהִירוּthey_make_oil יְקָבִיםWine-presses דָּרְכוּthey_have_trodden וַand יִּצְמָאוּthirst

¹² מֵBecause_of עִיר מְתִיםmen יִנְאָקוּdo_groan וְAnd נֶפֶשׁsoul_of חֲלָלִיםpierced_ones תְּשַׁוֵּעַdoth_cry וֶAnd אֱלוֹהַּGod לֹאnot יָשִׂיםdoth_give תִּפְלָה

¹³ הֵמָּהThey הָיוּhave_been בְּamong מֹרְדֵיrebellious_ones_of אוֹרlight לֹאnot הִכִּירוּThey_have_discerned דְרָכָיways וHis וְNor לֹא יָשְׁבוּabode בִּin נְתִיבֹתָיpaths וHis

¹⁴ לָAt אוֹרlight יָקוּםdoth_rise רוֹצֵחַmurderer יִקְטָלHe_doth_slay עָנִיpoor וְand אֶבְיוֹןneedy וּAnd בַin לַּיְלָהnight יְהִיhe_is כַas גַּנָּבa_thief

¹⁵ וְAnd עֵיןeye_of נֹאֵףan_adulterer שָׁמְרָהHath_observed נֶשֶׁףtwilight לֵ אמֹרSaying לֹאNo תְשׁוּרֵdoth_behold נִיme עָיִןeye וְAnd סֵתֶרsecret פָּנִיםface יָשִׂיםhe_putteth_in

¹⁶ חָתַרHe_hath_dug בַּin חֹשֶׁךְdarkness בָּתִּיםhouses יוֹמָםBy_day חִתְּמוּthey_shut_up לָ מוֹ לֹאnot יָדְעוּThey_have_known אוֹרlight

¹⁷ כִּיWhen יַחְדָּוtogether בֹּקֶרmorning לָto_them מוֹ צַלְמָוֶתdeath_shade כִּיWhen יַכִּירhe_discerneth בַּלְהוֹתterrors_of צַלְמָוֶתdeath_shade

¹⁸ קַלLight הוּאhe עַלon פְּנֵיface_of מַיִםwaters תְּקֻלַּלVilified_is חֶלְקָתָportion םtheir בָּin אָרֶץearth לֹאnot יִפְנֶהHe_turneth דֶּרֶךְway_of כְּרָמִיםvineyards

¹⁹ צִיָּהDrought גַםalso חֹםheat יִגְזְלוּconsume מֵימֵיsnow-waters שֶׁלֶג שְׁאוֹלSheol חָטָאוּhave_sinned

²⁰ יִשְׁכָּחֵForget_doth הוּhim רֶחֶםwomb מְתָקSweeten_doth וֹhim רִמָּהworm עוֹדmore לֹאNo יִזָּכֵרis_he_remembered וַAnd תִּשָּׁבֵרbroken_is כָּas עֵץa_tree עַוְלָהwickedness

²¹ רֹעֶהTreating_evil עֲקָרָהbarren לֹאnot תֵלֵדbeareth וְAnd אַלְמָנָהwidow לֹאno יְיֵטִיבhe_doth_good

²² וּAnd מָשַׁךְhath_drawn אַבִּירִיםmighty בְּby כֹחpower וֹhis יָקוּםHe_riseth וְand לֹאnone יַאֲמִיןbelieveth בַּin חַיִּיןlife

²³ יִתֶּןHe_giveth לto וֹhim לָ בֶטַחconfidence וְand יִשָּׁעֵןhe_is_supported וְAnd עֵינֵיeyes הוּhis עַלon דַּרְכֵיways הֶםtheir

²⁴ רוֹמּוּHigh_they_were מְּעַטa_little וְand אֵינֶnot נּוּthey וְAnd הֻמְּכוּthey_have_been_brought_low כַּAs כֹּלall יִקָּפְצוּthey_are_shut_up ן וּAnd כְas רֹאשׁhead_of שִׁבֹּלֶתan_ear_of_corn יִמָּלוּcut_off

²⁵ וְAnd אִםif לֹאnot אֵפוֹnow מִיwho יַכְזִיבֵdoth_prove_a_liar נִיme וְAnd יָשֵׂםdoth_make לְof אַלnothing מִלָּתִword יmy
