Deuteronomy 25

¹ כִּיWhen יִהְיֶהthere_is רִיבa_strife בֵּיןbetween אֲנָשִׁיםmen וְand נִגְּשׁוּthey_have_come_nigh אֶלunto הַthe מִּשְׁפָּטjudgment וּand שְׁפָטוּthey_have_judged ם וְand הִצְדִּיקוּdeclared_righteous אֶת הַthe צַּדִּיקrighteous וְand הִרְשִׁיעוּdeclared_wrong אֶת הָthe רָשָׁעwrong-doer

² וְthen הָיָהit_hath_come_to_pass אִםif בִּן הַכּוֹתto_be_smitten הָthe רָשָׁעwrong-doer וְthat הִפִּילhath_caused_to_fall_down וֹhim הַthe שֹּׁפֵטjudge וְand הִכָּהhath_smitten וּhim לְin פָנָיpresence וhis כְּaccording_to דֵיsufficiency_of רִשְׁעָתwrong-doing וֹhis בְּby מִסְפָּרnumber

³ אַרְבָּעִיםforty יַכֶּhe_doth_smite נּוּhim לֹאnot יֹסִיףhe_is_adding פֶּןlest יֹסִיףhe_is_adding לְto הַכֹּתsmite וֹhim עַלabove אֵלֶּהthese מַכָּהstripes רַבָּהmany וְand נִקְלָהis_lightly_esteemed אָחִיbrother ךָthy לְin עֵינֶיeyes ךָthine

⁴ לֹאnot תַחְסֹםThou_dost_muzzle שׁוֹרan_ox בְּin דִישׁthreshing וֹits

⁵ כִּיWhen יֵשְׁבוּdwell אַחִיםbrethren יַחְדָּוtogether וּand מֵתhath_died אַחַדone מֵof הֶםthem וּand בֵןson אֵיןno לhath וֹ לֹאnot תִהְיֶהis אֵשֶׁתwife_of הַthe מֵּתdead הַ חוּצָwithout ה לְto אִישׁa_man זָרstrange יְבָמָhusband’s_brother הּher יָבֹאdoth_go_in עָלֶיunto הָher וּand לְקָחָhath_taken הּher לto וֹhim לְfor אִשָּׁהa_wife וְand יִבְּמָdoth_perform_the_duty_of_husband’s_brother הּher

⁶ וְand הָיָהit_hath_been הַthe בְּכוֹרfirst-born אֲשֶׁרwhich תֵּלֵדshe_beareth יָקוּםdoth_rise עַלfor שֵׁםname_of אָחִיbrother וhis הַ מֵּתdead וְand לֹאnot יִמָּחֶהis_wiped_away שְׁמname וֹhis מִout_of יִּשְׂרָאֵלIsrael

⁷ וְAnd אִםif לֹאnot יַחְפֹּץdoth_delight הָthe אִישׁman לָto קַחַתtake אֶת יְבִמְתּbrother’s_wife וֹhis וְthen עָלְתָהhath_gone_up יְבִמְתּbrother’s_wife וֹhis הַthe שַּׁעְרָgate הto אֶלunto הַthe זְּקֵנִיםelders וְand אָמְרָהsaid מֵאֵיןis_refusing יְבָמִhusband’s_brother יMy לְto הָקִיםraise_up לְto אָחִיbrother וhis שֵׁםa_name בְּin יִשְׂרָאֵלIsrael לֹאnot אָבָהhe_hath_been_willing יַבְּמִto_perform_the_duty_of_husband’s_brother יmy

⁸ וְand קָרְאוּhave_called לfor וֹhim זִקְנֵיelders_of עִירcity וֹhis וְand דִבְּרוּspoken אֵלָיunto וhim וְand עָמַדhe_hath_stood וְand אָמַרsaid לֹאno חָפַצְתִּיI_have_desire לְto קַחְתָּtake הּher

⁹ וְThen נִגְּשָׁהhath_drawn_nigh יְבִמְתּbrother’s_wife וֹhis אֵלָיunto וhim לְbefore עֵינֵיeyes_of הַthe זְּקֵנִיםelders וְand חָלְצָהdrawn נַעֲלshoe וֹhis מֵ עַלfrom_off רַגְלfoot וֹhis וְand יָרְקָהspat בְּin פָנָיface וhis וְand עָנְתָהanswered וְand אָמְרָהsaid כָּכָהThus יֵעָשֶׂהit_is_done לָto אִישׁman אֲשֶׁרwho לֹאnot יִבְנֶהdoth_build_up אֶת בֵּיתhouse_of אָחִיbrother וhis

¹⁰ וְand נִקְרָאhath_been_called שְׁמname וֹhis בְּin יִשְׂרָאֵלIsrael בֵּיתhouse_of חֲלוּץis_drawn_off הַ נָּעַלshoe

¹¹ כִּיWhen יִנָּצוּstrive יַחְדָּוtogether אֲנָשִׁיםmen אִישׁone וְwith אָחִיanother ו וְand קָרְבָהhath_drawn_near אֵשֶׁתwife_of הָthe אֶחָדone לְto הַצִּילdeliver אֶת אִישָׁhusband הּher מִout_of יַּדhand_of מַכֵּהsmiter וּhis וְand שָׁלְחָהhath_put_forth יָדָhand הּher וְand הֶחֱזִיקָהlaid_hold בִּon מְבֻשָׁיsecrets וhis

¹² וְthen קַצֹּתָהthou_hast_cut_off אֶת כַּפָּhand הּher לֹאnot תָחוֹסdoth_spare עֵינֶeye ךָthine

¹³ לֹאnot יִהְיֶהhast לְ ךָThou בְּin כִיסְbag ךָthy אֶבֶןa_stone וָand אָבֶןa_stone גְּדוֹלָהa_great וּand קְטַנָּהa_small

¹⁴ לֹאnot יִהְיֶהhast לְ ךָThou בְּin בֵיתְhouse ךָthy אֵיפָהan_ephah וְand אֵיפָהan_ephah גְּדוֹלָהa_great וּand קְטַנָּהa_small

¹⁵ אֶבֶןa_stone שְׁלֵמָהcomplete וָand צֶדֶקjust יִהְיֶהhast לָּ ךְThou אֵיפָהan_ephah שְׁלֵמָהcomplete וָand צֶדֶקjust יִהְיֶהhast לָּ ךְthou לְמַעַןso_that יַאֲרִיכוּthey_prolong יָמֶיdays ךָthy עַלon הָthe אֲדָמָהground אֲשֶׁרwhich יְהוָהJehovah אֱלֹהֶיGod ךָthy נֹתֵןis_giving לָto ךְthee

¹⁶ כִּיfor תוֹעֲבַתabomination_of יְהוָהJehovah אֱלֹהֶיGod ךָthy כָּלany_one עֹשֵׂהdoing אֵלֶּהthese_things כֹּלany_one עֹשֵׂהdoing עָוֶלiniquity

¹⁷ זָכוֹרRemember אֵת אֲשֶׁרwhich עָשָׂהhath_done לְto ךָthee עֲמָלֵקAmalek בַּin דֶּרֶךְway בְּin צֵאתְgoing_out כֶםyour מִfrom מִּצְרָיִםEgypt

¹⁸ אֲשֶׁרthat קָרְhe_hath_met ךָthee בַּin דֶּרֶךְway וַand יְזַנֵּבsmiteth בְּin ךָ כָּלall הַthose נֶּחֱשָׁלִיםfeeble אַחַרֶיbehind ךָthee וְand אַתָּהthou עָיֵףwearied וְand יָגֵעַfatigued וְand לֹאnot יָרֵאis_fearing אֱלֹהִיםGod

¹⁹ וְAnd הָיָהit_hath_been בְּin הָנִיחַgiving_rest יְהוָהJehovah אֱלֹהֶיGod’s ךָthy לְto ךָthee מִfrom כָּלall אֹיְבֶיenemies ךָthine מִround_about סָּבִיב בָּin אָרֶץland אֲשֶׁרwhich יְהוָהJehovah אֱלֹהֶיGod ךָthy נֹתֵןis_giving לְto ךָthee נַחֲלָהan_inheritance לְto רִשְׁתָּpossess הּit תִּמְחֶהthou_dost_blot_out אֶת זֵכֶרrememberance_of עֲמָלֵקAmalek מִfrom תַּחַתunder הַthe שָּׁמָיִםheavens לֹאnot תִּשְׁכָּחthou_dost_forget
